The South African National Taxi Council has expressed concerns about the delay in implementing the National Land Transport Amendment Act, which is expected to be gazetted in October.
The Act introduces stricter regulations for e-hailing services, bringing platforms such as Uber and Bolt into closer alignment with traditional public transport regulations. The Act is also expected to address long-standing concerns around safety and unregulated operations by requiring e-hailing drivers to undergo vetting and criminal record checks.
Meanwhile, the lack of regulation has led to congestion in the sector and poses a serious threat to public safety.
