Singapore's Parliament has passed the Platform Workers Bill.
Cabbies, private-hire drivers, and freelance delivery workers using online platforms will receive higher Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions, matching those of employees.
Platform operators must also offer standard work injury compensation insurance.
Additionally, platform workers, currently unable to unionize, can form platform work associations with legal powers akin to trade unions. These associations can negotiate collective agreements and access avenues for redress, including the right to strike under justified circumstances.
