MEPs in the Economic Affairs Committee have approved a bill that seeks to regulate technological transport platforms such as Uber and DiDi by establishing that they are collaborative private services, not public ones. There are still issues to be resolved, such as clarifying that the service only applies to vehicles carrying five people (including the driver) and that they do not use bus infrastructure such as bays or stops. The working relationship between platforms and drivers also needs to be addressed, but at this stage this has been defined outside the scope of the employment relationship.
