The Drivers Cooperative of Colorado, a new driver-owned ride-sharing platform launched to challenge the dominance of companies like Uber and Lyft, guarantees drivers 80% of each fare, with no surge pricing, ensuring a fairer and more transparent payment structure. Over 4,000 drivers have already joined, attracted by the platform's focus on driver empowerment rather than corporate profits. The cooperative is backed by local foundations and is targeting a 10% market share within three years. This initiative is the first on-demand, driver-owned ride-hailing platform in the US, following the success of similar efforts in New York. The cooperative emphasises transparency, worker ownership and social mobility, giving drivers a sense of belonging and control over their work.
