April 2024 - Spain - Uber to compensate 4,400 riders fired after Rider law

Uber has agreed with the National Court and the UGT and CCOO unions to set up a fund for more than 4,400 riders who worked as bogus freelancers until the Ley Rider came into force in 2021.

The parties have estimated this compensation on the basis of their average earnings as self-employed riders last year. In addition, some of the most experienced delivery drivers will be entitled to an extra bonus of around 800 euros.

In its own way, Uber is following in the footsteps of Deliveroo, which integrated its 3,800 delivery riders into its workforce before the Ley Rider came into force and then made them redundant with compensation.
