Ald. Susan Sadlowski Garza introduced legislation to the City Council to protect ride-hailing drivers in the event corporations attempt to deactivate their accounts.
At present, ride-hailing workers have no guaranteed protections in place in Chicago that allow them to appeal companies’ decisions to ban them from working on their platforms.
Local lawmakers have adopted similar protections elsewhere in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.
