According to the Turin Court, Glovo riders are employees, and not independent contractors.
The ruling requires Foodinho (the Italian startup acquired by Glovo) "also to pay the rider the arrears deriving from the salary differences accrued in the activity carried out from 2019 to 2021 as an occasional independent collaborator, compared to the amount due pursuant to of the Collective Agreement of Commerce ”, the CGIL union states.
When a rider is logged into the platform, the entire shift is to be considered work time, regardless of the deliveries made: the possibility of refusing a delivery is not sufficient to qualify the rider's activity as self-employment.
