In the Netherlands, the number of young people who work independently for platforms has increased by almost 30 percent in one year. In total, 9,613 of these entrepreneurs were registered by the Chamber of Commerce (KVK) in July. In July last year there were still 7,492.
This group mainly consists of students, holiday workers and young people who earn extra in their free hours, for example in the catering industry. According to Jessica van El, expert Young Entrepreneurship at the Chamber of Commerce, working for a platform company seems "attractive to young people". They can decide for themselves when they are available to work. But Van El warns: "This makes you an entrepreneur yourself. You will not be paid in the event of illness, you will not receive any vacation days and you will not build up a pension."
